Significant Dental Innovations Embraced Here At Smile Up
Dentistry has seen some monumental changes in modern times. Advancements in making treatment pain-free, designing braces suited to adults, and treatment planning facilities mean that visiting the dentist is no longer tainted with the unwelcome associations of the past. Here at Smile Up Dental, we’re passionate about offering a professional and forward-thinking service and this includes embracing the latest technologies. Here are a few examples that we’re thrilled to be able to offer our patients.
Invisalign
The Invisalign system has treated more than 7 million patients across the world since its introduction to the market in 2000. Invisalign is comprised of a series of clear aligners and is widely credited with having attracted many adults patients to orthodontic treatment. Created with the modern adult in mind, Invisalign aligners are removable, so you can eat as normal and brush without the hassle of having to navigate between brackets and hardware. Their transparent design means they’ll blend with your smile and keep it looking great throughout the treatment period.
CBCT Scanner
CBCT scanners have (literally) changed the face of dentistry, allowing your dentist to take 3D images of your whole face and skull, facilitating treatment planning considerably and yielding a much higher level of accuracy than 2D scanning. Smile Up Dental are one of the few practices to have a CBCT scanner in South East London and we take many referrals from other dentists in the area.
Airflow teeth polishing
Hygienist appointments are an essential part of any healthy dental routine and focus on keeping your teeth free of harmful bacteria build up as well as your gum health. A typical part of a hygienist appointments is a scale and polish, a method used to remove tenacious staining that can’t be removed through brushing alone. Traditionally, plaque and tartar is ‘scraped’ from your enamel using metal tools; the Airflow system is a more comfortable alternative. The Airflow works by blasting a mix of water, compressed air, and fine powder particles and is more effective at tackling the damaging biofilm that develops once dental plaque has been colonised by bacteria than the conventional scrape.
Digital Impressions
Digital impressions have improved the overall process where a number of treatments are concerned and these include creating orthodontic appliances and carrying out tooth whitening, crowning, and veneers, amongst other treatments. Digital impressions have improved levels of comfort for patients, who no longer have to battle with the unpleasant alginate impression material that so often induces a gag reflex.
