What technology do we use?
Our Lewisham practice uses four main pieces of dental technology. A digital scanner replaces putty impressions. A CBCT scanner takes 3D X-rays. A dental laser treats gums and soft tissue. A microscope helps with root canal treatment.
For you, that means more comfortable appointments and treatment that’s planned from clearer information. Patients come to us from Lewisham, Greenwich, Blackheath and Deptford.
Why it matters to you
- No messy putty trays. A small camera scans your teeth instead.
- A 3D X-ray shows bone and nerves that a flat X-ray can’t.
- Implants and complex extractions are planned from that 3D view.
- A laser can treat gums with less bleeding and often less need for an injection.
- Magnification helps us find and treat the fine canals inside a tooth.

What it means at your appointment
Digital scan
We move a small wand-shaped camera around your teeth. You can watch a 3D model of your mouth appear on screen. We use it for Invisalign, crowns and new patient check-ups.
CBCT 3D X-ray
You stand still in the scanner for a few seconds while it rotates around your head. It shows your teeth, jawbone and nerves in 3D. We use it to plan dental implants, wisdom tooth removal and other complex extractions. Your dentist can show you the images and explain what they see.
Dental laser
You wear protective glasses. The laser is quiet and doesn’t vibrate like a drill. We use it for gum disease and soft-tissue work. More about laser dentistry.
Dental microscope
During root canal treatment, the microscope magnifies the inside of your tooth. That helps us save teeth that might otherwise need to come out.
Technology at SmileUp
- CBCT 3D scanner on site, so you don’t need a hospital referral for a 3D scan
- Microscope used by Dr Yulianna Greco, whose work is focused on root canal treatment
- Other dentists can refer patients to us for CBCT scans and OPGs
