White Fillings
White Fillings Lewisham – Greenwich – Blackheath
Fillings used to be made of silver amalgam and looked horrible, plus they were destructive to the tooth, which had to be all but destroyed in order to fit them.
Now we use white fillings, which are blended to match the colour of your teeth so they’re way more discreet. They’re made of composite resin and although this means they take a little longer to create and place than metal fillings, the results are most definitely worth it.
Unlike silver amalgam fillings, white fillings are bonded to the teeth so they can be used to repair teeth, especially front teeth that have been chipped or broken, and they can be used on your back teeth as long as there’s not too much decay or damage.
What’s So Good About White Fillings?
- They’re invisible because they match the colour of your natural teeth.
- They can be used to reshape and rebuild broken tooth edges or worn teeth.
- They can cover discoloured patches that can’t be removed by cleaning or teeth whitening.
- Your teeth need less preparation for white fillings than for traditional silver fillings.
What to Expect
As with all treatments we will make sure your mouth is clean and otherwise healthy before we begin, perhaps using our Airflow Teeth Polishing that removes nearly 100% of bacteria and makes it easier for bonds and sealants to grip to tooth surfaces.
We might give you a local anaesthetic to numb the area around the tooth, or if you’re really nervous we can discuss conscious sedation. Once your tooth is prepared we’ll place the composite filling material onto it and shape it and we’ll accelerate the hardening process with a UV light.
