Routine examinations
A dental check-up at least once a year is a really good backstop to guard against dental problems because it means we’ll catch any potential trouble spots in your mouth before they have a chance to create permanent damage.
We also recommend a dental hygiene appointment every six months to remove plaque that’s too stubborn for your usual brushing and flossing. If plaque isn’t removed it can lead to gum disease, which can irreversibly affect the bone surrounding your teeth and eventually cause tooth loss.
Despite how impressive our treatments like dental implants have become, there’s no substitute for keeping your natural teeth (it’s certainly a lot cheaper…) and no reason why you shouldn’t keep yours for life.
All it takes is a bit of consistency around how you look after your teeth, and regular check-ups are the most important piece of the puzzle. Once you get the all clear, our hygienists will point out any spots that they can see you are struggling to keep clean and will help you improve you daily brushing and flossing routine so it’s the best it can be. That might mean recommending new types of floss you haven’t tried.
The benefits of regular check-ups don’t stop there; they protect your general wellbeing because healthy teeth and gums are beneficial to the whole body by reducing the risk of heart attack, type 2 diabetes and stroke. We aim to identify any existing disease and, where treatment is required, offer comprehensive advice and treatment options.
You get:
- Plenty of time with a dentist who listens to any concerns you have about your teeth and mouth
- A comprehensive examination of your face, head, neck and mouth
- A tooth shade check
- A clear written treatment plan where needed, including all costs
