We get it, going to the dentist is scary — about half of the population don’t do it regularly because fear is still such an obstacle. But it’s the 21st century and we know how to overcome dental-phobia; it’s about getting that first appointment under your belt. (Look what this nervous patient had to say.)
We do everything we can to overcome dental-phobia one patient at a time. We promise we won’t hurt you and we offer conscious sedation (with a drip) so no treatment is out of your reach. Intravenous sedation stops that dreaded gag reflex that nervous patients often struggle with while dentists are poking around in their mouths, and it leaves you conscious but completely comfortable.
Each new patient registration/assessment is a longer length appointment than our routine check ups. We ensure there is extra time for every new patient visiting Smile Up to fully discuss all their concerns and questions with the GDP and have their treatment plan explained.
It’s a disturbing fact that tooth decay remains the most common reason why five-to-nine-year-olds are admitted to hospital in this country, and in many cases that’s for multiple tooth extractions under general anaesthetic. Yet tooth decay in your children can be avoided with regular trips to a dentist who gains their trust, shows them how to brush properly and guides them — and you — on how to navigate the minefield of sugar in drinks and food.
We think the first experiences your child has at the dentist are really, really important. In fact, we can’t overstate it. At Smile Up our renowned dentist for children Auri is brilliant at quickly establishing a bond of trust with her nervous young patients and setting them up for a lifetime of dental health. Look at what one of Auri’s young patients has to say about her here.
